Playing Java games
The games on Gamegate.com run on Java, so you need a Java enabled
browser to play. The most common browsers are Java enabled, Netscape
users need to use at least version 4.06, Internet Explorer users need to
use at least version 4.0. If the games do not run on your computer,
please read the Java help below.
For an optimal game playing experience, you need at least a Pentium II
300 MHz computer.
Playing Java games on Apple MacIntosh
Gamegate's latest games can also be played on a Mac, the conditions are
that you use the latest Internet Explorer version and the latest Apple
Java Virtual Machine. The latter can be downloaded from http://developer.apple.com/java/classic.html
Java help
If all you see is a blank screen when you start up a game, chances are
Java and JavaScript are not enabled in your browser. Here's how to make
sure they are:
Netscape 4.xx or up for Windows, Mac or Linux
- Click 'Edit' in the menu bar and select 'Preferences'
- Select 'Advanced' and check 'Enable Java' and 'Enable JavaScript'
Internet Explorer 4.xx for Windows
- Click 'View' in the menu bar and select 'Internet Options'
- Click 'Security' tab
- The Internet Zone Security level must be 'Medium' or lower
(Custom Security settings for the Internet zone must not include
'Disable Java' under 'Java permissions'. Please select one of the three
safety levels instead. Make sure that under 'Scripting' 'Scripting of
Java Applets' is set to 'Enable' or 'Prompt')
- Click 'Advanced' tab
- Scroll down to 'Java VM' and check 'Java logging enabled' and 'Java
console enabled'
(Note: If you checked 'Java JIT compiler enabled' and experience
freezing problems, please uncheck that box.)
Internet Explorer 5.xx or 6.xx for Windows
- Click 'Tools' in the menu bar and select 'Internet Options'
- Click 'Security' tab
- The Internet Zone Security level must be 'Medium' or lower
(Custom Security settings for the Internet zone must not include
'Disable Java' under 'Java permissions'. Please select one of the three
safety levels instead. Make sure that under 'Scripting' 'Scripting of
Java Applets' is set to 'Enable' or 'Prompt')
- Click 'Advanced' tab
- Scroll down to 'Java VM' and check 'Java logging enabled' and 'Java
console enabled'
(Note: If you checked 'Java JIT compiler enabled' and experience
freezing problems, please uncheck that box.)

Windows XP comes with Internet Explorer 6 without the Java Virtual
Machine (JVM) needed to play Gamegate games.
You can download a Microsoft VM for Windows XP
or download Sun's Java plug-in on
http://www.java.com
Internet Explorer 4.5/5 for Macintosh OS 8/9
- Click 'Edit' in the menu bar and select 'Preferences...'
- Click 'Java' bullet in the Web Browser section
- Check 'Enable Java'
Internet Explorer 5 for Macintosh OS X
- Select 'Preferences' in the 'Explorer' menu
- Select 'Java' in the left navigation bar
- Check 'Enable Java'
My scores are not posted
If your scores aren't posted, there can be a problem with Sun's newest Java plug-in. Use Microsoft VM instead. This applies to Internet Explorer on Windows only.
Activate Microsoft VM on Internet Explorer 5.xx or 6.xx for Windows
- Click 'Tools' in the menu bar and select 'Internet Options'
- Click 'Security' tab
- Click 'Advanced' tab
- Scroll down to 'Java (Sun)' and uncheck 'Use JRE 1.5.0 for <applet>'
- Restart your browser
(Note: If you are using Windows XP, it could be no Microsoft VM is installed, follow instructions at http://www.xs4all.nl/~smuller/VMSite2 to download and install the Microsoft VM. Repeat step 1-5 afterwards.)
